Meet the author: Diana Anyakwo - My Life as a Chameleon Online
Join us for this online Meet the Author event with Diana Anyakwo. Diana will discuss her novel My Life as a Chameleon, which was longlisted for the 2024 Jhalak Children's & Young Adult Prize.
Lily is a sixteen-year-old living in Manchester. Nearly five years after her father's death, she is preparing to return to Nigeria for the anniversary and to reunite with her mother and siblings. As rain falls on the streets of Moss Side, she reflects on her life and wonders: how did she get here?
Growing up in Lagos as the daughter of a Nigerian father and an Irish mother, Lily learns to navigate a world of contrasts, where moments of warmth and joy coexist with tensions that remain unspoken. As family secrets emerge and her life is transformed by loss, upheaval and migration, Lily is forced to confront questions of identity, belonging and where she truly fits in.
My Life as a Chameleon is a powerful and moving story of resilience, family and self-discovery.
